Red Red Red

This little guy comes to have a bath in my garden every day.

He always comes to investigate what I'm up to when I go into the garden. If I start to pull up weeds or dig, he gets right up close. Today he found lots of pickings.

He's sitting here on the pot of my japanese maple which, at the moment, is looking pretty hot!

I'm sad to see summer slip away

but today found some small compensations for the cold, wet

and reduced light.

 Yet to come ..... changing colours, seed pods and frost.



Soak up the Sun!

Today was the first for weeks that I've been at home without rain. I was able to investigate the garden and discovered plenty has been happening. Whilst it poured on and on I busied myself with other things - chores indoors. I've missed the outdoors but I can see that, for my garden at least, the rain has been beneficial. 

Now we're all greatful for some sunshine - its free!

Hidden treasure at the bottom of my garden.

Looking for the bright side of life.

What a lovely day!

Since moving here my ventures into the back garden have consisted only of dashes to and from the bin or to quickly stash things in the shed - often in the dark.

Today I lingered, fed the birds, poked around, considered some changes and spied just a few of these little gems. It'll be interesting to see what else is hidden under the surface.

My green fingers are itching. The soil is too cold but I'm making plans.

Looking on the Bright Side

It's now dark when my alarm goes off in the morning. I much prefered being woken by the sun streaming in through the summer curtains. One compensation however is having the sun come up like this while I make my lunch and drink coffee. My bathroom (and it's mirror ball) gets full morning sun too but I mustn't get too distracted or I'll be late for work.

  

PS: this was a couple of days ago. This morning:- damp, dark and grey!

The sun is shining and the breeze of slightly cooler air makes long walks more comfortable.

Crops are being harvested and along the paths a variety of grasses bow in the wind.

So much of the year I'm confined indoors or surrounded by concrete and tarmac. If I had to walk this way every day would I appreciate it as much?

Autumn is waiting in the wings and then another long dark winter. Can I recognise and savour what they will have to offer?
